The Volkswagen Beetle has been a popular car for decades. Perhaps the best-known Volkswagen of all time, however, is Herbie. Herbie was the automotive star of the 1968 movie The Love Bug, which happened to be the last live-action Disney film created under Walt Disney’s personal direction.
The script did not originally call for a Volkswagen. In fact, several different cars actually “auditioned” for the role. The Beetle was chosen as it was considered the most lovable.
Herbie, an aspiring race car who competes in the Monteray Grand Prix, prominently features the number 53. This was the number of baseball star Don Drysdale of the Los Angeles Dodgers, whose number was retired in 1984.
You won’t find a 1960s Volkswagen Beetle at Burnsville Volkswagen, but you will find an awesome selection of new and used Volkswagen cars. Come on down and see them for yourself!
